Which American (classic?) book should I read for my term paper?

Mojo , Sunday, 8th of August 2010 08:13:28 PM

We just got assigned a term paper in English. The assignment is to read a
Mojo
book or play of our choice by an American author and write an essay on it.

for us to use as sources.

So I am thinking that a classic

would be the way to go.

Some that l thought l might consider
are...

Arrowsmith by Sinclair Lewis
The Bridge of San
Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder
The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen
Crane
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway
The Sun Also
Rises by Ernest Hemingway
A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway/>Absalom, Absalom by William Faulkner
The Bell Jar by Sylvia
Plath
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller

Has anyone had
any experience with these books/authors? If so, what would you recommend?

Oh, feel free to recommend me anything else.

try anything by Jane Austen
Rebecca by Daphne Du Marier
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Walden Pond by Henry David Thoreau
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Uncle Tom is Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe (although it is loooong)..
The Tragedy of Pudd'nhead Wilson by Mark Twain (fast read & very good
book!)
The Blithedale Romance by Nathaniel Hawthorne

I am not sure if this is considered a classic but you should ask ur
teacher about it cuz it should be. It is based on the Vietnam War & it
contains all the elements of the classics.

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien

I'd also branch out from that genre of literature into something a bit

more. adventurous. Try Robert Heinlein is Stranger in a Strange Land. Many
of the ideas in that book started the hippie movement back in the 60s, and
has symbolism galore. One of the best science fiction books ever written.
People have done doctoral theses on this book.

Edit: Stephy - Jane Austen is most certainly NOT American.
